A process and press are disclosed for forming cuboid pressed bales of harvested materials, in particular grass blades and/or leaves. The harvested materials are supplied to the inlet area of a pressing channel whose cross-section is delimited at right-angles and are conveyed through said pressing channel (9) as a pressed rope. The pressed rope is cut into sections after it runs through the presssing channel (9) and said sections are surrounded by securing means in order to keep pressed the harvested materials. The harvested materials are compressed in a substantially vertical direction while running through the pressing channel, the compression increasing with the length of the pressing section already covered. The distance between the top (12) and bottom (13) channel delimitations progressively diminishes in the direction of transport of the rope of harvested materials. |
