[Class 51 (ii).] Discharging.-The iron or slag runner trough a of a blast or like smelting furnace is fitted with a vertically slidable gate which is operated, either directly or through lever mechanism e, by an electric, hydraulic, or fluid pressure device f controlled from a distant station or stations. The invention is shown applied to a lay-out of runner troughs a associated with a blast furnace b, the several gates c being actuated by fluid pressure cylinders f having, in the supply and exhaust connections h<1>, i<1>, valves j which are controlled electrically from a remote control panel k. The cylinders f are preferably disposed below the level of the troughs a, being supported by cross beams g<1> in pits g which also accommodate, below the cylinders, the supply and exhaust connections h<1>, i<1>. Means may be provided both for direct operation of the valves j and for disconnection of the power actuating device to permit hand operation of the gates. |
