PURPOSE:To provide a new sugar compound useful as a biosurfactant. CONSTITUTION:A tetraglucose consisting of a complete hydrolyzate of an oligosaccharide fatty acid ester obtained by culturing an actinomycete belonging to the genus Micropolyspora and capable of producing an oligosaccharide fatty acid ester in a nutrient medium and a partial ester of the tetraglucose. A surfactant composed of the tetraglucose or its partial fatty acid ester.
