PRODUCTION OF ETHYLBENZENE

PURPOSE:To decrease the amount of catalyst to be used in the production of unit amount of ethylbenzene. CONSTITUTION:Ethylbenzene is produced from ethylene and benzene in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. In the above reaction, polyethylbenzene containing <=0.5wt.% of diphenylethane formed as a by-product is recycled through the reactor.
