PURPOSE:To certainly avoid the contamination of a recording medium due to the ink dripping from an ink absorbing member at a time of recording in a cleaning device wherein the unnecessary ink wipen off by a viper member is absorbed by the ink absorbing member and to prevent the color mixture in color ink jet recording to keep image quality well. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary cleaning means 4 is provided to the area opposed to the surface of the nozzle 2 of a recording head 1 in adjacent relation to a wiper member 3 and equipped with an ink absorbing member 5 absorbing the ink bonded to the wiper member 3 and an advance and retreat drive means 6 allowing the ink absorbing member 5 to usually stand by at the position spaced apart from the viper member 3 and relatively moving the ink absorbing member 5 to the position coming into contact with the wiping surface of the viper member 3 at a point of time when the wiping operation due to the viper member 3 is completed. In a color ink jet recording apparatus, the wiper member 3 and the auxiliary cleaning means 4 are provided at every recording head 1. |
