PURPOSE:To obtain a carbon-containing refractory having high strength and excellent thermal shock resistance by adding metallic Si to a refractory raw material composed of alumina and spherical carbon powder and baking the mixture in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The carbon-containing refractory is produced by adding 2-10wt.% of metallic Si to 100wt.% of a refractory raw material composed of 70-95wt.% of alumina and 5-30wt.% of spherical carbon powder and baking the mixture in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. The alumina to be used in the process contains 15-30wt.% of particles having a diameter of 74-150mum, 35-50wt.% of particles having a diameter of 10-74mum and 20-50wt.% of particles having a diameter of <=10mum. The spherical carbon powder is composed of 50-80wt.% of particles having a diameter of 10-100mum and 20-50wt.% of particle having a diameter of <=10mum. |
