Corrosion resistant aluminium alloys

A new aluminium alloy has the composition Cu 0.6-2.5; Mn 0.7-1.2; Fe up to 0.13; Si less than 0.10; Balance Al. The alloy is suitable for rolling into sheet of for extrusion. It is corrosion resistant. The corrosion resistance can be improved by providing a 20-50 mu m thick band of Al-Mn-Si dispersoids formed in the alloy adjacent at least one surface, the Si having migrated under heat treatment from a material applied to the article.
