PURPOSE:To obtain an optical head which can cope with a rewritable magneto- optical disk, can be miniaturized, can be easily positionally adjusted, and can be made inexpensive. CONSTITUTION:As to this optical head, light from a semiconductor laser 22 is condensed on a magneto-optical recording medium 30 through a condensing means 29, and return light reflected by the medium 30 is received by photodetector means 23, 24, 25 and 26 through the condensing means 29. Then, it is provided with a diffraction element 28e arranged between the laser 22 and the condensing means 29 so as to diffract the return light, and polarized light separating elements 28b and 28c having the polarized light separating planes 28f and 28g nearly parallel with the optical axis of the 0-order light of the return light at the diffraction element 28e and separating the light diffracted by the diffraction element 28e in accordance with the polarization direction and making it incident on the photodetector 23, 24, 25 and 26. |
