PURPOSE:To avoid the occurrence of quench phenomenon efficiently, to simplify a system, and to reduce its cost by installing an equivalent primary impedance reduction coil at a toroidal magnetic field coil. CONSTITUTION:An equivalent primary impedance reduction coil is placed externally to rapidly reduce current on quench protection in a toroidal magnetic field coil. Namely, a protection coil is placed so that it crosses the magnetic field created by the toroidal magnetic field coil in the toroidal magnetic field coil unit. When the toroidal magnetic field coil is used as a primary coil, the protection coil constitutes a secondary coil. When the protection coil is used as the secondary coil, a primary coil current moves to the secondary coil and the primary coil 9toroidal magnetic field coil) current is attenuated faster than that of the total magnetic energy transiently, thus securing the protection operation on quenching. |
