PURPOSE:To obtain the subject compound useful as an intermediate for medicines, etc., in high yield at low cost by alkenylation of the side chain of an aromatic hydrocarbon using a conjugated diene and a specific mixed catalyst under prevention of ignition and explosion during the production. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be obtained by alkenylation of the side chain of an aromatic hydrocarbon with a hydrogen atom bound to the alpha-site of the side chain pref. under a pressure of <=2kg/cm<2>-G at >=100 deg.C but not higher than the reflux temperature, using a 4-5C conjugated diene, using a catalyst, a mixture obtained by heat treatment at 100-300 deg.C in an inert gas of metallic sodium with a compound prepared by baking a mixture of potassium hydroxide with aluminum hydroxide (e.g. gibbsite, bayerite, norstradite, boehmite) at 500-700 deg.C. |
