PURPOSE: To cancel any motion vector generated in the reverse direction by comparing a search block of a temporally following input picture and a search area of a temporally preceding input picture with each other. CONSTITUTION: An output field 78 is temporally closer to a temporally following input frame n+1 than a temporally preceding input frame (n). The interpolation position of the field 78 is 0.75, and this indicates that the field 78 is placed in 3/4 between frames (n) and n+1. A comparator of a time reference converter compares a search block 80 of the frame n+1 with plural blocks 83, 84, 85... of the frame (n). The best correlation is found between the block 80 and the search block 85 of the search area of the frame (n) to generated a motion vector 90. If the vector 90 is more related to a block 92 than a block 94 and indicates the reverse direction and the comparator detects an interpolation position larger than 0.5, the generated motion vector is canceled. |
