Process and apparatus for the shrinkage of a shrink-foil cover

A process for the shrinkage of a shrink-foil cover which is drawn over a product stack and is fixed with its free orifice edge to the lower end of the product stack and which is then loaded with hot air from outside and from the bottom upwards by means of a shrinkage frame movable in the vertical direction along the product stack, the space enclosed by the shrink cover being put under overpressure in order to inflate the cover, the said overpressure being maintained until the end of the application of heat, is to be improved so that the packaging operation can be accelerated and carried out with a greater saving of energy. This is achieved in that, first, hot air is blown onto the lower cover region from the shrinkage frame and heated air flowing off downwards is collected underneath the product stack and blown into the space enclosed by the shrink cover, and in that, during and/or after inflation of the cover, the shrinkage frame is moved along the stack from the bottom upwards, with heat continuously being transmitted to the cover.
