A device is proposed for separating filter elements, in particular changeable oil filters. The conventional filter elements are composed of a filter paper element and a metallic internal support tube and metallic end discs. The device is provided with two supporting rails 15, 16, which are mounted in a frame 11 displaceably relative to each other. A press plunger is provided perpendicularly to the direction of movement of the two supporting rails 15, 16, which press plunger, by means of a compressed air cylinder, carries out a movement along the vertical in such a manner that a press plunger 26 compresses a filter element 19 laid on the two supporting rails and thus separates off the end discs 21, 22 from the filter paper element 20. ……
