Ignition control device for preventing an engine from being started up by any actuation other than actuation of the appropriate key without adding a contact structure to an ignition switch. The device includes a circuit (11) for detecting a transfer condition which is set into progress from the moment when a moving contact (2a) of an ignition switch (2) having a transfer-type contact structure separates itself from a fixed off-position contact (2c) until the moment when the moving contact (2a) comes into contact with a fixed on-position contact (2d), a transfer-type switching detection circuit (13), a circuit for monitoring the switching duration (12) and a circuit for validating the ignition operation (18) for generating an ignition validation output (18e) only when a switching operation of the ignition switch (2) is terminated within a predetermined length of time.
