A writing or drawing instrument has a writing tip (1) provided at the front end and capable of being brought into contact with a writing or drawing substrate, and a writing liquid reservoir (7) to supply writing liquid to the writing tip (1). The instrument has a writing liquid chamber (9) between the writing tip (1) and the writing liquid reservoir (7), consisting of a bubble of flexible, non-resilient material. The writing liquid chamber (9) is connected at one side to the writing tip (1) and at the other side to a barrier (12) which can be opened in a controlled manner and is connected to the writing liquid reservoir (7). When a lower filling level is reached in the writing liquid chamber (9), the barrier is briefly opened in order to fill the writing liquid chamber (9), the volume of the writing liquid reservoir (7) reducing in accordance with the consumption of writing liquid. <IMAGE>
