A method for operating a spinning frame having a plurality of drive motors fed from a three-phase current grid (network) operates in such a way that in the event of failure of the supply voltage at least one slowly running drive motor is operated as a generator and the electric energy thereby generated is fed to at least one normally more quickly decelerating drive motor. The extraction of energy from the drive motor running in generator operation and the supply of energy to the drive motor remaining in motor operation are controlled so as to prescribe a spinning programme in accordance with defined desired rotational speeds of the two drive motors per se at any instant up to standstill (stoppage). The electric energy generated by the drive motor operated in generator operation is at least great enough for the drive motor remaining in motor operation to be driven by the required energy. The energy generated by the drive motor driven in generator operation is consumed elsewhere. <IMAGE>
