A machine (1) for applying glue to wood comprises a gluing station (2) which has two glue rolls (8, 9) vertically adjustable relative to a longitudinal-feeding device (6) for the wood (H) to which glue is to be applied. In order to make possible an efficient glue-application process capable of automation, the upper glue roll (8) is seated together with at least one axially parallel pressure roller (11) on a vertically movable upper slide (12), which pressure roller (11) is mounted, in the feed direction, in front of the glue roll (8) and at a height distance from the glue roll adapted to the working position of the glue roll with respect to a surface to which glue is to be applied, the upper glue roll (8) cooperating, in the working region, selectively with the lower glue roll (9) seated on a likewise vertically movable lower slide (17) or with at least one support roller (18) seated on an additional slide (20) movable relative to the lower slide (17). In addition, the gluing station (2) is, in the feed direction, preceded by a wood store (3) and followed by a take-off conveyor (4) with interposition of a monitoring device (21) in each case, and a control device (5) controls the drives of the gluing station (2) and preferably of the wood store (3) and of the take-off conveyor (4) in accordance with a preset control program and as a function of the control signals of the monitoring devices (21). <IMAGE>
