The invention relates to a motor-vehicle door having a side-impact protection means. It is proposed that the side-impact protection means be installed, on the inner side or underside of the door, such that it can be released from the door. This gives rise to the possibility, after an accident, of being able to leave the side-impact protection means, which is jammed in the door opening, in the door opening and, after release of the same, of, however, being able to open the door. Vehicle occupants can then be brought out of the vehicle over the side-impact protection means. By virtue of a small gap, which is advantageous in this type of construction, between the side-impact protection means and the door opening, forces which, in the event of the bodywork being deformed, act in the door region can be expediently transmitted further on. It is further proposed to fasten the side-impact protection means on the door by securing devices such that, after deformation has taken place, said securing devices release the side-impact protection means automatically or with the aid of a mechanical or electrical detachment device.
