In order to block the reproduction or the recording of certain programmes in a television receiver or a video recorder without having to programme the transmitting frequencies which can be received locally, it is proposed to use as criterion for discrimination between programmes to be passed and programmes to be blocked, the programme source code of the VPS system. In a memory device for data words, the VPS programme source codes either of all programmes to be blocked or of all programmes to be passed are stored. A comparison device, preferably in a microcomputer, is supplied with the programme source code of the programme in each case received which is provided by a VPS decoder as actual value and all data words stored in the memory device, preferably in succession, as nominal value. When there is equality between the programme source code of the programme received in each case and one of the programme source codes stored, the reproduction or recording of the received programme is blocked or allowed to take place.
