A child safety device (4) is designed to be mounted upon an adult seat (1) in a motor vehicle with the child safety device (4) being releasably connected to at least one anchoring point associated with the seat (1). The child safety device (4) and the anchoring point are each provided with one of first and second cooperating members (15, 16) which are inter-engageable to form a releasable connection. The cooperating members (15, 16) are mounted on the child safety device (4) and the anchoring point so as normally to be held in a predetermined orientation which permits inter-engagement of the cooperating members (15, 16) by appropriate movement of the child safety device (4) relative to the adult seat (1). The first cooperating member (16) comprises a housing adapted to receive the second cooperating member (15) and further comprises a locking element (23) moveable relative to the housing between a locking position in which the locking element (23) engages the second cooperating member (15) and retains the second cooperating member (15) in the housing and a release position. <IMAGE>
