<p>Prepn. of a tetrahydropyrido-indole (beta-carboline) deriv. of formula (VI), or its salt or solvate, comprises contacting a tryptamine deriv. of formula (VII) with an azlactone of formula (VIII) in presence of a protic acid. In formulae, R1, R3 = H or 1-3C alkyl; R2 = H; R4 = bicyclyl (opt. substd.); A = substd. fused system. The protic acid is pref HCl, HCOOH, HCLO4, H2SO4, or phosphoric acid. Reaction is in an inert atmos. at reflux temp.</p> |
