PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of a limiting current-type oxygen sensor and, at the same time, to improve the heat radiating property of the sensor part of the sensor by integrally constituting the sensor in such a way that a substrate constitutes an ionic conductive body and part of the substrate constitutes an oxygen ion chip, with the remaining part of the substrate constituting a lead plate part. CONSTITUTION:An anode and cathode 2A and 2B are respectively provided on the lower and upper surfaces of an ionic conductive plate 1 composed of stabilized zirconia by printing the electrodes 2A and 2B with platinum paste together with their lead sections 3A and 3B and baking the paste. Then an insulating layer 4 is formed by applying a coating material composed of crystalline glass powder and ceramic powder, such as steatite powder, to the surface of the plate 1. Thereafter, an oxygen sensor is constituted by printing a heater circuit 5 with a resistant coating and the leads 5A of the circuit 5 with platinum paste on the surface of the layer 4. Since the crystalline glass of the layer 4 guarantees a heat resisting, insulating, and heat radiating properties and the ceramic powder mixed with the glass powder guarantees a heat resisting, insulating, mechanical strength, and acid resisting properties, this sensor can withstand mechanical destruction and thermal destruction. |
