Disclosed are a polyester compound having a repeating unit represented by the formula -OC-A-COO-BO- (1) wherein A is a 1,3:2,4-dibenzylidenesorbitol or 1,3:2,4-dibenzylidenexylitol residue of the formula <IMAGE> (2) wherein t is 1 or 0, and B is a residue formed by removal of two hydroxyl groups from a polyhydric alcohol, and an organic gelling agent comprising the polyester compound.
