PURPOSE:To obtain the power conservation method for a video camera in which power consumption in the video recording standby state is reduced. CONSTITUTION:Since an optical view finder is provided, it is not required to generate a video signal in the video recording standby state and power is supplied to circuits required to start video recording immediately after the input of a command of video recording state. At this time, an image signal generating circuit in a camera block 10, that is, power supply to a CCD 14, a sample-and- hold circuit, an AGC circuit 15, an A/D converter circuit 16 and signal processing circuit 16, 17 or the like are interrupted to reduce power consumption in the video recording standby state. Furthermore, the power supply to the signal processing circuits 22, 23 to generate a recording signal in a VTR block 20 is interrupted in the video recording standby state.
