PURPOSE:To provide a method for shortening symbols in a source program, easily retrieving the symbols in language processing and saving a memory. CONSTITUTION:This method includes a symbol amount calculating procedure 1 for analyzing terms in the source program, calculating the amount of a symbol based on the description frequency of the symbol and the number of characters in the symbol and registering the calculated result in a symbol table, a code converting procedure 2 for applying number ID codes to symbols in accordance with the descending order of symbol amounts, a symbol compressing procedure 3 for converting each symbol in the source program by an applied ID code based on a frequency type code managing table and compressing the symbol, and a symbol restoring procedure 4 for restoring the ID code to the original symbol. |
