<p>PURPOSE:To keep excellent picture quality at a high compression rate. CONSTITUTION:An image pickup element 30 selects field read or frame read. Processing circuits 34, 36, 38 respectively generate a luminance signal of an even field, a luminance signal of an odd field and a common chroma signal. When outputs from the processing circuits 34, 36, 38 are stored in a picture memory 42, a frame picture by one exposure is stored in the picture memory 42. On the other hand, a switch 44 is open at an odd field and the switch 44 is closed at an even field and the picture memory 42 is operated in a state of read modified write, a frame picture resulting from synthesizing two field pictures exposed individually. A picture compression circuit 48 selects compression processing in the unit of frames or fields and the system control circuit 48 designates the processor of the picture compression circuit 48 in response to the field output or frame output of the image pickup system.</p> |
