The subject matter of the invention is a method for pressing wood to a predetermined shape by heating the piece of wood that is to be pressed prior to pressing. The piece of wood 6 that is to be pressed is heated by placing electrodes 13, 14 at the end thereof, an electrical current being passed through the piece of wood 6 by means of a current source 17 so that the piece of wood 6 is heated uniformly throughout before it is pressed to the required shape. <IMAGE>
