The invention relates to an apparatus intended for developing the muscles of the buttocks in a specially adapted position which avoids lumbar (lower-back) pain. It consists of a principle frame (1) equipped with a movable arm (19). By bending forwards, the user places one half-bent leg so that it bears on the footrest (20) and is wedged on the knee rest (2). With his abdomen supported by a ventral support (10), he grips the handles (grips) (7) by stretching out his arms. In this position, with the other leg extended, he moves a movable lever (19), which resists movement, until it is horizontal. The alternating raising and lowering of the extended leg causes the buttock muscles to work. The apparatus according to the invention is intended particularly for exercises aimed at maintaining or developing the buttock muscles, for use both at specialised premises or at home. <IMAGE>
