<p>A door latch has a housing for installation in a prepared cavity (38, 58, 138) at a door edge (100) and has interchangeable faceplates (20, 30) for finishing the door edge (100). The interchangeable faceplates (20, 30) each have an opening (5, 24) for permitting extension and retraction of a latch bolt (10), have a peripheral shape required for compatibility with the prepared cavity (38, 58, 138), and have features (15, 21, 31, 51, 52) providing for releasably securing the faceplates (20, 30) to the housing and to the door edge (100). This permits installation of door latches regardless of the door preparation by merely interchanging the faceplates (20, 30) to match the door preparation.</p> |
