Method for generating geometric masks by means of a digital colour computer

A method for the production of geometric masks is described. A colour image is represented on a monitor. Using a coordinate entry device, colour samples are taken from the image and stored in a colour sample memory. Colour correction values, which change the colours determined by means of the colour samples, can be entered. A colour computer is used for the rapid calculation of the colour correction. To generate the geometric masks, the colour computer is loaded with an extreme value at the locations which are determined by means of the colour samples. For this purpose, a table in the colour computer is loaded with the extreme value at the corresponding location. Then, the colour image data are applied to the colour computer and the output data of the colour computer is compared with a threshold value. If the result is positive, one location in a mask memory is set. After all image pixels have thus been compared with the threshold value, the mask memory contains a geometric mask at all locations which belong to the colour samples. The masks in the image can be represented on a monitor and can be used in the normal way for image processing. <IMAGE>
