Heat exchanger, in particular for motor vehicles, having oval tubes whose ends have a cross-section in the shape of a figure eight and are held by means of an elastic seal in passages, with a cross-section in the shape of a figure eight, of a tube plate (sheath). The problem in tube/plate connections (joints) for such heat exchangers consists, inter alia, in that the tubes are not sufficiently sealed and not held securely against being drawn out of the rubber seal. The object of the invention is to provide a tight tube/plate connection, secure against being drawn out, for oval tubes in rubber seals. This object is achieved by widening the tube ends with respect to the seals and the passages and are preferably widened on their longitudinal sides for the purpose of forming a safety device against withdrawal.
