Device consisting of a surround (3) encircling a vessel or a device to be closed (2). It is slidably movable on the side walls of the vessel by means of a motor-driven pinion (4) actuating a rack (6) which extends the rear face of the surround (3). The latter comprises hooks (9) which, during the rear sliding of the surround (3), engage and block compression bolts (7) which are bevelled and which are located on the periphery of the lid or door (1). The front sliding of the surround (3) releases the bolts (7) from the hooks (9), thus allowing the lid to open as a result of the arrival at the end of travel of the sliding rails (14) on ball bearings (13) and by means of the pinion (4) on the rack (6). <IMAGE>
