To displace the selector shaft (96h), two interacting actuators (100h, 101h) are provided, one (100h) of these being provided to move the selector shaft (96h) axially and the other (101h) being provided to rotate it. With this actuator system, it is possible to use a single design of transmission both for a manual and for an automatic transmission. By means of the two actuators (100h, 101h), the selector shaft (96h) can be actuated in such a way that the respective gates and gears are selected. The two interacting actuators (100h, 101h) replace the gear lever provided in the motor vehicle with manual transmissions and the corresponding gear-change linkage.
