On a press frame (10), filter plates (20) arranged parallel to each other can slide between an operating position in which they are pressed together and a drainage position. In an upper end region of each filter plate (20), hangers (40) are mounted so as to be able to pivot each about its own transverse pivoting axis (A) and are pretensioned by springs (48) in the direction of deflection upwards. The end surfaces (24) of the filter cloths (50) covering filter plates (20) are suspended from the hangers (40). In the drainage position, the hangers (40) are swung away from the associated filter plate (20) by the filter cloth (50) suspended thereon if filter cake (54) adheres thereto and the hangers only return to a starting position after discharge of the filter cake (54). The pivoting axis (A) of each hanger (40) on the associated filter plate (20) is displaced by more than half the filter plate thickness (d) from the end surface (24) to which the filter cloth (50) suspended from the hanger (40) is assigned.
