The invention relates to a protective wrapper for books, magazines or the like of different thickness and/or with case covers (7) of variable width. This protective wrapper can easily be attached to the two cover sheets (5; 6) of the case cover (7) and removed again. The problem underlying the invention is to provide a protective wrapper which adapts to the width and/or thickness of the inserted book, magazine or the like, and which is simple and clean to handle, inexpensive to manufacture and reliable in respect of the performance of all its protective functions. It is additionally required to be robust and durable in use. The pocket (2) of the wrapper sheet (1) is, at the end, open at the edge (11) except for the upper reinforcing edge (3) and the lower reinforcing edge (4) and is designed so that the corresponding cover sheet (5) of the case cover (7) can be pushed in from the outside.
