Colour control of products is carried out by colour sensitive image-forming sensors such as colour matrix, colour line or colour point scanners. One or several multidimensional histogrammes of the colour vector components are calculated from the signals supplied by these sensors both for a reference sample and for inspected samples and colour deviation or coincidence measurements are derived by comparing said histogrammes. Non-valid spots corresponding to shining surfaces, shadow areas or uncertain chromatic values are automatically eliminated before the comparison is carried out. This colour control may thus be used even for objects whose surface is not diffuse and is disturbed by other image contents. |
