By using the partitioning of the colour dots of the display into two or more subsets and activating these subsets non-simultaneously according to the invention it is possible to improve the resolution of a display (e.g. CRT, electroluminence or liquid crystal screen), reduce its flicker, or affect both simultaneously. With the invention it is also possible to improve presentation of movement on the screen. The subsets of colour dots are activated non-simultaneously during one frame. The flicker frequency of the display becomes the higher the greater is the number of flashes during one frame. The number of colour dots activated during one frame is still the same as in a normal display. Hence, the amount the information used for displaying a picture remains unchanged. If the frame rate is reduced, more pixels can be drawn during one frame. Thus, the spatial resolution of the screen can be improved or the area of the screen can be increased without losing spatial resolution. The flicker frequency of the display remains still high, because one frame consists of several flashes of light. A moving object on the screen can be presented with less colour information and at a lower spatial resolution. |
