<p>The invention relates to a process for the treatment of solid powder materials and/or sludges which are toxic or harmful in accordance with current legislation on account of the presence of high concentrations of nicotine. The object of the process according to the invention is to reduce the nicotine content below 500 ppm in the dry matter. In order to achieve this object the solid materials and/or sludges are subjected to percolation with an aqueous solution. In order to improve its effectiveness the percolation operation may take place after the material has first been heated in subsequent stages at a pressure other than atmospheric pressure, etc. Solid powder materials and/or sludges obtained according to the process having a nicotine content in the dry state which is less than 500 ppm are also claimed.</p> |
