The invention relates to a radial tyre having a wound ply and a method for its manufacture. In order to keep the fault points of the wound tyre in the region of the belt as small as possible, it is proposed that the material strip of the ply be narrower in the edge region of the belt than in the region lying further inwards. In terms of the manufacturing process this is achieved in that at least two strips of differing width are wound and in that the narrower or narrowest strip is arranged in the axially outer regions of the belt.
