PURPOSE:To detect obstacles within relatively near distance extending over a wide range by the use of a few pairs of signal transmitting and receiving devices. CONSTITUTION:Two elements A, B each serving both for signal transmitting and receiving are fitted on one side of a vehicle 1, and the elements A and B are operated at mutually different timing to transmit and receive signals. Then, obstacles 4a, 4b approaching from the tangential direction of a circle with the element A as the center are detected with the element A, because signals transmitted from the element A are reflected on the obstacles and received with the element A. Similarly, obstacles 4e, 4g are detected with the element B. The obstacles such as 4b, 4d, 4e approaching from the tangential direction of an ellipse with the elements A, B as the foci, for example, a signal transmitted from the element A is reflected on the obstacle and received with the element B. Hereby, obstacles within the circular territories and the elliptical territory with the elements A, B as the centers can be detected. |
