PURPOSE:To provide inexpensively an adjusting shim which is low in its attacking property against an objective material by forming it of a ceramic material, and applying specific chamfering on its margin concerning the adjusting shim used for a valve system of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION:An adjusting shim 4 is used for a valve system of an internal combustion engine. That is, the adjusting shim 4 is interposed between a cam 2 and a valve lifter in the valve system and accordingly adjusts a valve clearance of a suction and exhaust valve 5. In this case, the adjusting shim 4 is formed of a ceramic material, and on its margin 9, chamfering in a shape where a C face 12 is connected on an R face 13 is applied. Additionally, face roughness on upper and lower faces 11 and an outer peripheral face 10 of the adjusting shim 4 is set at Rmax=1.6mum or less. Additionally, at the time of manufacturing the adjusting shim 4, chamfering is applied by way of using a brush containing abrasive grains. |
