<p>PURPOSE:To provide a method by which an extremely high degree of desulfurization can be attained in a vulcanized rubber, etc. CONSTITUTION:This desulfurizing method comprises adding water, preferably a 1N or higher aqueous base solution, to a sulfur-containing solid, liquid, or gaseous composition and treating the composition under hydrothermal conditions in the presence of a metal salt, preferably a metal oxide, as a sulfur adsorbent. Under hydrothermal conditions, ionization proceeds more readily and various reactions involving ions are considerably accelerated. The method takes advantage of such reactions to cleave the sulfur bonds contained in the composition and to facilitate bonding of the sulfur to the metal introduced in the reactional system.</p> |
