POLYCARBONATE RESIN MOLDING MATERIAL AND ITS PREPARATION, AND PRODUCTION OF POLYCARBONATE RESIN MOLDING

PURPOSE:To obtain the title material which gives a molding excellent in flame retardancy, by heating polycarbonate resin granules and a mixture of main and auxiliary flame retardants at a specified temperature with agitation to melt additives and form a coating layer of the flame retardant mixture on the resin granules. CONSTITUTION:Granules of polycarbonate resin (hereafter referred to as 'PC resin') are mixed by stirring with a mixture of a powdery or particulate main flame retardant having a melting point lower than that of the PC resin granules {e.g. a halogenated bisphenol epoxy resin of formula I wherein R1 and R2 are each H or a group of formula II or III wherein Y is Br or Cl; and is 0 to 5; X is Br or Cl; i is 0 to 4; and n is an average degree of polymerization and is 0 to 10} and a liquid auxiliary flame retardant (e.g. an organopolysiloxane of formula IV wherein R3 and R4 are each alkyl, phenyl or aralkyl; and m is molecular weight in the environment of a temperature below the melting point of the PC resin granules to thereby melt additives without melting the PC resin granules and form a coating layer of the flame retardant mixture over the whole surface of the PC resin granules.
