摘要 PURPOSE:To enable only vehicles running in the next traffic lane to be detected by letting a detection range limiting means be equipped, which sets a picture image as a window at a plurality of positions, detects a distance to an object, and can select only an object of your own vehicle by each window based on the result of distance detection by each window. CONSTITUTION:A distance 5a to a vehicle running behind, which is caught by a window 16, is detected by a distance detection means such as a computer, a processing circuit, programs and the like. Each distance to the vehicle running behind caught by the other windows 14 and 18 is similarly detected. The window 14 detects a distance to a white line 20 caught by the window 14, and respective distances to guard rails 21 caught by the windows 17 and 18 can be similarly detected. In order to prevent the white line 20 and the guard rails 21 from being mistaken for the vehicle running behind, the range of distance detection is set so as to be limited within the next traffic lane 24. This constitution thereby enables the vehicle running in the next traffic lane to be discriminated from the white line 20 and the guard rail 21.
