PURPOSE:To provide the curved line data capable of unitedly dealing with the straight line and the quadratic curve or the like by few division numbers and capable of the approximate transformation and coexistence with the quadratic Bezier curve data. CONSTITUTION:A contour point sequence extraction section 2 extracts the contour point sequence of the font from the font image read by an image input device 1. A characteristic point extraction section 3 judges the curvature of the outline curve of the font, etc., from the extracted point sequence, extracting the characteristic points such as point of inflexion, angular point, and cusp. An element division section 4 divides the curve into plural partial curves consisting of graphic elements such as straight line, arc, and curve based on the characteristic points such as the point of inflexion, angular point and cusp. A curve interpolation section 5 generates the curve data by approximately interpolating each partial curve by applying the meromorphic quadratic Bezier curve.
