PURPOSE: To provide a method for mapping original color data to a nonlinear color palette. CONSTITUTION: An input block 130 has four pixels in RGB format. A conversion table is based upon RGB 14 format, so an input value is scaled in a step 131 so as to place the color values of the RGB 14 format in a source color space block (nonlinear palette) 132, color values are used to look up corresponding entries of the conversion table 134, and the entries are placed in the table 136 according to the positions of the color values in the block.
