PURPOSE:To expand a continuous image forming function of 1st and 2nd pages without reducing a working efficiency by detecting automatically the length and width of an original as a factor deciding the size of the original and the direction of the original. CONSTITUTION:When the operator sets an original, it is sensed by an original sensor 36. An exposure lamp 40 is lighted by the sensing of the original. After the lapse of a predetermined waiting time corresponding to a time required by the operator to position the original, an original range sensing section 28 is set to the original range sensing mode and carriages CA1, CA2 are moved toward a tail end of the original. In this case, the light quantity of the exposure lamp 40 is limited to an absolutely minimum quantity for original sensing so as not to be too bright to the operator. The sensing section 28 senses A) a tip position of the original in the subscanning direction, B) the tail end position of the original in the subscanning direction, C) the tip position of the original in the main scanning direction and D) the tail end position in the main scanning direction based on the picture data obtained by the CCD sensor section 10. |
