PURPOSE:To prepare methacrolein in high selectivity, and to improve the life of the catalyst, by the gas-phase catalytic oxidation of isobutylene, etc. in the presence of a specific catalyst comprising oxides of Mo, Bi and Fe. CONSTITUTION:Methacrolein is prepared by the gas-phase catalytic oxidation of isobutylene or a mixture of isobutylene and t-butanol with oxygen at high temperature in the presence of a catalyst comprising a composition I [A is K, Rb, Cs; a is 0.002-0.06; b is formula II; f is formula III; n is 1/2Z; X, Y are numbers which fall in a quadrilateral defined by the four apexes (0.45, 0.35), (0.45, 0.65), (0.85, 0,50) and (0.85, 0.65); Z is 0-0.6; p is 0-0.2] supported by 30-70 wt% of silica. As the content of Mo is low, the sublimation loss of Mo can be reduced and the abrasion resistance of the catalyst is improved. |
