By means of the tyre pressure warning device the difference in rpm of the tyres of a vehicle is evaluated with the provision that the rpms of the four wheels are constantly determined by different units and are evaluated at a high speed, and with the provision that the vehicle is travelling on a straight route and at a time when all four wheels are in the same state. If all the four wheels are not in the same state, the evaluation of the difference in rpm of the tyres by the tyre pressure warning device is disabled. By making use of the driving conditions of the vehicle, a particularly informative tyre pressure evaluation is carried out, noises produced by the travelling vehicle having no influence on the evaluation and an anomaly in tyre pressure being capable of being detected with sufficient accuracy, and the signal produced by the wheel speed sensors being carefully evaluated. In this way, a reliable and precise tyre pressure evaluation is ensured. The reliability and accuracy of this evaluation is increased by virtue of the fact that the evaluation is disabled if the vehicle experiences specific conditions, and by virtue of the fact that the evaluation takes place within a predetermined speed range of the vehicle accompanied by evaluation of the state of the road.
