The prerecording consists of a sequence of separate discrete flags (71) whose sectionsc (711-D,711-G) are offset by equal and opposite distances from the median axis of the track (7). A particular code is defined by each gp. of smooth sections (711) Of disc. Each prerecording flag is preceded by an auxiliary prerecording element (73) representing pref. a particular code for selective identification w.r.t. the other recorded data for synchronisation purposes. The track follower has a two-cell photodetector with measuring circuits including a differential amplifier and either sample-and-hold stages or integrating circuits with memory and sampling circuits, producing a radial tracking error signal.
